We always like to listen to feedback from students so I'm very pleased to announce that we will be running a New Macro & Close-up Photography Course on Sunday 5th June 2011.

During this course you will learn how to photograph close ups of insects, flowers and use lighting to show the texture of a fossil. There will also be a chance to try your hand at snapping a water splash using our studio set-up.

We've already pre-booked three spaces for this course so please visit the website for advice on lenses, extension tubes and close -up lenses. You can also see more samples, the course requirements book your space.

Bird & Landscape Photography Course at Rutland Water 9th April - EXTRA DATE 10th April - 2 Spaces

This very popular Landscape and Bird Photography Course at the Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre at Rutland Water on Saturday 9th April 2011 sold out very quickly so we have added Sunday 10th to our itinerary. We run this course in April and September and it's a great opportunity to access the bird watching hides at the Centre and get some great shots of a wide variety of different birds.

We will show you how to photograph birds on a feeder and also snap a picture of a bird in flight and so far we have had a 100% success rate.

The course includes some really useful and practical tips on improving your landscape and bird photography. We do like people to have attended the beginners, course before attending this one, but it isn't essential. The beginners course includes a much wider overview of different technique whereas this course purely focuses on the best settings for bird, landscape and nature photography.

After reviewing your images and constructive feedback we will show you how to improve your images on a computer using some free software.

Portrait Photography Course on May 8th - Just 2 spaces left

Following feedback from past students we are now running a dedicated Portrait Photography Course on Sunday 8th May from 10am - 5pm. Previously these courses have run from 2pm to 8pm and included the Night Photography Course.

Students are increasingly asking how to take portraits using studio flash and backgrounds so we are adding this to the course itinerary. After February we'll be running the portrait course as a full day course and using the extra time to take portraits using a simple studio flash lighting set up with black and white backgrounds. There will also be the chance to try out various professional flash techniques using bounced and direct flash. Your own dedicated flashgun with bounced head and a tripod are really useful additions for this course. We will also show you how to shoot pictures by available and window light.

This month’s project - Spring has Sprung

I know it may not seem like it in the rain, cold and damp but it is meant to be Spring this month.

Crocuses, Snowdrops and Daffodils are just starting to push their heads above the turf so it's a great time to put on your walking boots and go and take some lovely Spring photographs. When you are packing your camera bag remember to include a bin liner as this is an invaluable (and cheap) way to get down without getting dirty.

Remember the trick is to treat flowers like portraits and use a long lens with a wide aperture so the background goes out of focus. If you fancy a change you could try placing the camera on the ground and look up towards a blue sky with a wide angle. If you do get a great picture then please upload it to our Facebook page.

New Digital Photography Courses Facebook Group

We now have a Digital Photography Courses Facebook Group where students can add photographs for other students to view and comment on. Sincere thanks go to Terry, Ian, Becky, David and Paula for their many contributions and constructive feedback on each other pictures. Please take a look at the images and maybe upload some of your own as I really look forward to seeing your work.

"Glen was infinitely patient and clear. He showed absolutely no incredulity at how long it took me to grasp the subtleties of the different settings. Thank you for a very informative (and bracing) day. I've learnt such a lot about my camera." Nancy

"Glen was very patient and nice to spend the day with. Thank you for an absolutely brilliant day and thanks to Jacqui for lunch." Greta Powell.

"I found this course thoroughly enjoyable and educating. I wasn't overwhelmed with technical jargon but Glen also didn't try to teach me to suck eggs. After some more practice with my new found skills I will booking on a more specialist course." Kate Roberts

"I had a great day. I've learnt so much and I understood far more than I thought I could remember. I definitely be back for more courses." LC

"I enjoyed this course very much and it was very well presented in lovely surroundings. I feel a lot more confident now." Malc Mott.

"I really enjoyed the whole day and I feel so much more confident and I'm really looking forward to using my camera a lot more now. Looking through everyone's pictures afterwards really helped me to see more ideas for pictures and see where I can improve." Heather Alexander

"I had a brilliant day! Arrived feeling very down hearted as it was a very grey miserable day yet came away feeling like a professional photographer ...potentially." Flo Roberts
